Anclote Pier Lemon while fishing Solo
Hey guys got this lemon about a week ago fishing by myself (few buddies just left about 20 mins prior) on my 6/0 everol on a 5lb bonita head that I had to swing cast by hand while standing on the railing to get it far enough for it to drift on a balloon in the current. About a 20yd toss
He was a fat lemon and every bit of 8 ft. Walked him to the shallows and as I was grabbing the leader he started thrashing and swimming around in 3 inches of water and tried to bite me twice. So I then decided he could keep the 6ft leader if he wanted it that bad and broke him off. He swam around the shallows for a few minutes in between the pilings and swam out just fine.
I was really disappointed as the bait was larger than I typically use at this location and still achieved the same results as usual (6-9ft shark) and that isn't much of a fight at all on my 6/0. I did learn to be very careful even in 3 inches of water with lemons.
Crappy pics while he was swimming around after I broke him off.

Nice catch Rich. You guys ever catch any big bulls in that area?
Yes Will there have been. This is where I caught that 9ft 4 i posted in the bullring. Over the years ive seen a handful of 8fters caught (all on gear 6 or smaller) and quite a few 5-7fters. There have been a few 9ft plus lemons and quite a few sandbars 6-9ft range and an occasional dusky. The biggest issue has been getting baits out for a distance. We cast everything to a current thats produced by the powerplant, thus making the current inconsistent. Most of my sharks have been caught out past 300yds, the big bull well over 400yds out. A simple solution is a kayak, which for some reason ive never thought of until joining this site. I am hoping to acquire one soon so i can put out larger baits further on bigger gear like my 12 and 9 everols. Hooked a big shark two weeks ago on a cownose wing that took over 300yds in a min or less on my 4 with over 35lbs of drag. I believe it was a hammer...

what size reel did you use to subdue that 9 ft 4 bull?6/0 Everol? Best fight I ever got was on 6's, they are a blast!
Yes I caught that big bull on my 6 everol, but again didnt put up much of a fight. I also think my 6 is a wide version. I bought it used and it was stated as just a 6. Well on ebay there is a wide for sale and it looks the same as mine. Maybe thats why I fit over a 1000yds of 80 powerpro and almost 300yds of 80 triplefish mono ![]()
