A great start to shark week.with some sharkfishing of course

So last night... I met up with a bunch of friends at 9 to do some long needed shark fishing. I had a real good feeling about the night and so did everyone else in our group of 6. Saturday I went out on the Reward (a party boat in Miami Beach), and was able to acquire 6 bonita's, also yesterday at work we received a bonefish which had died on one of the local guides and after working it up and removing the otoliths which we use for aging the fish, it was mine for bait and we had plenty of bait. Bonefish is definitely one of my favorite baits because they thrive near the beaches I like to fish, unlike bonita who are found offshore. Arriving on Key Biscayne, I called up my friend fiona who lives on the island and she let us out onto her streets private beach. We set up for rods, my 14/0 with with a large whole bonita, a 12/0 with the whole bonefish, and two penn 50's with smaller bonita's. Judging by the tides I informed my friends that I thought we'd be getting a hit around 2am and that I guessed that it would be on the bonefish whose locality and shininess combined with the full moon would be a deadly combination. Sure enough, at 2am the 12/0 goes off... i go to do the running man and .. nothing... Next the 14/0 starts screaming, so i hand the 12/0 (which is still getting hit) to my friend eddie who also tries the running man with no avail. The 14/0 just stops so we all sit down and wait for the fish to come back to both rods. The fishing line keeps sliding out of the 12/0 slowly so i make another attempt at the running man and feel pressure at the end but barely any. I decide there must be a cuda or something on the other end, so I call my friend Carl who has never been fishing with us and he reels the rod in. Throughout the "fight" Carl gets tired and says he thinks its just the bait on the other end of the line and its tiring reeling in all 200 yards.. i encourage him to finish the fight because I just have this gut feeling that there is a fish on the other end and sure enough he brings up a 3 foot Blacktip. Since its his first shark we take a picture and release it quickly. I then go to bring up the 14/0 to check if it still has bait. The 14/0 feels real light and I'm thinking cut off.. i turn out to be right but not in the way I expected. The 19 wire leader has been BITTEN THROUGH!!! Both my trailer hook and my regular hook are gone.. the fish bit through like 2 feet of single strand 19 wire WTH?! We all agree that the fish musta been a montser and we now sorta regret letting the little blacktip go. All of a sudden in the distance I hear a little drag scream and then stop.. no one believed me but I went to go investigate anyways... I see my 50 wide has a lotta slack in it so i go to real the thing up and I feel a quick jerk. I loosen the drag to let the fish take it and then set the hook...... nothing. I then real my line in and it turns out to be a big cuda of at least 20lbs (the thing didnt even take drag). We all get excited and put the cuda whole on the 14/0 and wait. Four of my friends leave around 4:00am and me and eddie wait it out to around 6:00am and then call it a night...nothing touched the cuda. Overall it was still an amazing night.. I deff wanna hit that spot up again to catch that fish that bit through my 19 wire. I'll get some pics up soon.

Sounds like you guys had fun! The crew from the Reward in Miami are always cool to give you bait, if im in need of some bait i know i can always get a bonito from them, if you call them before they head out and give them your name you pretty much get first pick of what you want out of there cooler.
