I took a trip with some of my non sharking fishing buddies and I was hoping to put something better then a Blacktip on the sand. Well, Greg was dropping our third bait when he heard the second rod start screaming The clicker drew attention from about a 250 yard radius and he immediately dropped the bait and got back to dry land.
It was a fast action strike that never let up. I pulled the rod out of the sand spike and I was pulled a few feet towards the water. I then set up on the fish and planted my self in the sand. I screamed out to a friend to don the harness and sit next to the waters edge. I told him I would give him the 1st shark since he has never really been shark fishing before. I knew it was a quality hammer. It had to be 11ft plus and I wanted to keep it for myself, but I'll get the next 11ft plus Hammer. The shark never stop pulling drag and a very fast pace. I increased the drag and it made no difference. Sal got in position, the Hammer picked me up and moved me toward the water. I handed the rod off to him after about 2 to 3 min. of drag being pulled.
He tooked the rod and the line was getting very low and he had to turn the Hammer. I gave it another bump of drag and the tip bounced. Sal said, "I don't feel anything." Most people walked away at this time. I told him to reel since its possible for a Hammer to charge the beach. He was spent and wasn't reeling fast enough so I leaned in and starting reeling. I caught up to the shark and gave the fight back to him (FYI - the 2 guys in the background were not with us).
Unfortunately, it happen again and the Hammer won.
The second Hammer was very smooth.

He was holding court from his thrown.
An 8ft 5 inch Lemon with a shredded dorsal.
Released by Mattshark and myself after we tagged and de-hooked it.
It was the night of the 2 Hammers and this Hammer also won the fight.
Obviously, I had some difficulties that night:
1. Gave away a Monster shark to a friend who would have been happy with a Nurse.
2. Lost a Monster Hammer Shark.
3. Video camera broke on its first use.
4. Camera had lens issues and the pictures of the second Hammer are blurry.
I'll get both Hammers next time.
