8 foot plus Long Key Bull
My buddy Varune and I headed down to Long Key bridge yesterday on 11/28 to see if we can catch some shark bait, so I got a moon fish and a blue runner and we walked them down to the flats Varune got picked up by a big 30lb cuda fought him for a while and then he spit the hooks, then right after he lost his I got nailed by a 20lb cuda and landed him, then we went way up the bridge set up camp and waited for my buddy Shawn who was on the way from work with some fresh shark bait from the docks. The current started going out around 600pm I put the cuda head out Varune put the tail out and Shawn put a tuna head out, about 20 minutes later I get picked up let him run a little and set the hooks this shark fought like a animal taking drag and going from telephone pole to telephone pole even had me wrapped on a lobster trap once, I finally got him straight up and down and this shark looked huge so I decided to walk him down for a measurement, it was very difficult to measure him because the sea wall is so high on the south side of long key so I am just going to say over 8ft I want to thank Shawn who helped me walk it down to measure it and Varune for helping with the light , like always I didn't have my camera with me but a guy named Tino who I met while walking the shark down took some pictures and even a brief video thanks Tino and excuse my language during the video I didn't even know a camera was rolling, the bad part about it was during all these pictures Varune was alone a mile and a half up the bridge getting burned on his 14/0 with the cuda tail he got popped off and lost a lot of line the sharks were definitely hitting that night. Nice BULL there bird!!!!!
Them hands were getting awful close when you were taking out the hook,,,,,,,just a bit of advice so you don't end up with the secondary in your hand -hold the secondary with your pointer finger and middle finger wrapped around the bottom of the hook ,keep pressure and if the shark starts thrashing there is no danger of the secondary nailing;you the worst that can happen is the big bull pulls your shoulder out of socket but no hook in hand and possibility of getting yanked in with a pissed off TORO SHARK.Great stuff guys thanks for sharing. Will call me sometime I'll fish with you guys.
