So I finally have a report for you guys! My chick got back in town this morning and we decided to go fish the beach and see what we could get. We got out to our spot and had baits in the water by around 3. The first run came at about 5 around slack tide, and after a 30 minute fight I pulled in a 5'5 Blacktip. He was fighting strange the entire time and I couldn't decide if I had a ray or a shark on the line. It felt as if I was dragging something across the ocean floor. As it turned out I had hooked him in his right fin! Not even an hour after I re-rigged I had another run but missed the hook set. Then at around 8pm my gf's rod goes off. She tells me not to touch her pole so I leave it to her and the thing is burnin line! Almost all the line is peeled off and she tells me to take over. I clamp down on the drag and try to turn it but this thing is heading to mexico. I look at the spool and the backing is starting to show so I knew it was now or never. I proceed to tighten the drag down even more and cup the spool with my hand and the shark starts pulling me in the water, when finally I get him to stop and turn! I gain about 50 yards of line back and then hand the rod back to her to finish the fight. 30 minutes later we finally land the shark and it takes both of us everything we've got to pull him on the beach. This was her FIRST shark and at 8'5 a damn good catch!

Ya i've landed some tarpon and grouper out of that pass. Hooked into a few big sharks but never landed anything besides blacktips. It's my favorite pass to fish in ft myers for sure.
