2011 a year to remember,,,,including a pier caught Mako
Circle Hooks ARE the way to go I have been using them a long time fresh/sailt ;you get alot that you would miss with them & it seems that you can set the hook sooner too.
live lining Bait , you can set that hook as soon as you get hit with smaller baitsbut that depends on the size of the bait more, than on the hook , but you end up with alot ooked right in the corner of the mouth when they are running ,
overall I would rather use a circle hook.
95% of what we catch is released. We roap the sharks and bring them up on the deck. Take the circle hook out or cut the leader near the hook. We then put the roap on it's tail and attach a tag line to the loop in the main roap where it goes around the tail of the shark. The shark is lowered down and the tag line is used to pull the roap off the tail once the shark is in the water. We are quick with it. Sometimes from hook up to tagged and swimming off is less than 10 min. Average of 3 minutes on the deck.

How many times did it take to perfect this? I am curious as my buddies arent very good with a rope ![]()

Its like a howitzer gun section, the guys learn each ones responsibility's and learn to anticipate each others movements and after a while its clockwork. Or clearing a building, same concept. Alot of practice and dry runs. Eventually its all one fluid movement.
On the sand my guys run every which way and run into each other, and trip over each other, all the while Mel is trying to take pic's! and Im yelling at everyone to just clear out and calm down for a sec! LOL!
We just need more practice
. Maybe we should do some dry runs
.
