2009 SFSC -SHARKER OF THE MONTH
Yeah Sandra realy has impressed me, at first when she started catching sharks from the beach and doing everything i told her perfectly i was so exited for her future sharkfishing with us. But then when we took her out on the bridge this past October and she caught 2 sharks in one night, i was in awe!!!! I've seen grown men struggle from the bridge, even get wrapped or popped by blacktips and lemons, but nawww man not Sandra, she already knows how to power winch, run and reel at same time, and how to shout out to helpers with light to help her find middle of the pilings when the shark may be going under. The future is bright for my girl, and im so exited to see the catches she lines up for years to come.

South Florida Shark Club's winner of the "Sharker of the Month" award for December goes to JD Fagan.Jd caught an 8 ft 2 inch Bull shark fishing with Jd Hammer one day after attending the shark club awards party December 26th where he became a new South Florida Shark Club member. This soft spoken young man can fool you by his smooth disposition,,,,,,but he is an ardent passionate shark fisherman who is willing to work hard and is allready quickly learning the tricks of fishing the Florida keys bridges.Nineteen year old Jd has been shark fishing for three years and he just recently moved to the Florida keys from Dallas Texas where he frequently shark fished at the Horace Caldwell pier on Port Aransas. In Texas he also fished Bob Hall pier but preferred the management and had good friends at the Horace Caldwell pier where he was a regular. This independent 19 year old who moved to the keys after securing a job at the Marathon Bird Sanctuary impressed me from the moment I spoke to him on the phone the first time.JD is eager to learn Florida style shark fishing and has "big shark dreams" for 2010 and I for one can predict he will fulfill his dreams.

my small reel for a big fish

The new Jd and Mark with the 8 foot 2 inch bull
Story by JD Fagan
The day started off with me looking for a place to fish, i decided to go over long key when i thought i saw jdhammer and mark, so i decided to pull over and drive back to check and they wear there. So i decided to load up my gear and walk out, then did a little talking, and got rigged up. I was realy lucky they had a load of bait cause i was running out, thanks to Mark for catching those fresh cuda. I set out one rod with cuda, and jdhammer also just set out his 14/0 about 10 min before me had his 9/0 rigged with a live jack. The day started off slow and we were talking about going to the beach in a little bit. We stayed a bit longer and it payed off jdhammer was holding his 9/0 when the line started to go under the bridge i new he was fixing to hookup, i was watching him waiting for the hookup and there it was, he faught him till he was worn out a big jewfish.
We took some pics and got him back in, when i said wait hammer your 14/0 is going off so he ran down and set up he was on,but we still had to get picks with the jewfish so hammer passed the 14/0 to Mark. Then we went back down to get some pics with the jewfish by the time we were done taking pics and realeasing him,the shark had wrapped Mark around one of the telephone poles and popped the line. About 20 mins later or so my reel starts going off ,i ran over set up and he was on but somthing did'nt feel right, my line was under something close to the bridge and the shark was taking line but my line was still hung up on somthing and then pop goes my line. Me and hammer set out again for a little bit but nothing happend, so we packed up and headed to the beach.I just followed hammer cause i did'nt know where we were going, all i knew was i was going to get to fish a beach and i was realy
excited after all the action we had during the day.We pulled up to the beach got every thing rigged up, and then for the fun part walking out our bait .Me and hammer both walked out and we each dropped 2 baits we then headed back. There was alot of rays so i was realy watching my footing. We got back safe and then we set the drag on our reels and turned on the clickers. not long after we had set out i got a weird hit on my 9/0,nothing was there so i pulled up to make sure i still had bait and i did so i left it out. A little later my 50 wide starts a slow but steady roll and i go to set up no luck, i put my rod back down and about 5 min later my 50 wide starts rolling again so i put my reel in freespool to let him eat, then i put it back in gear let the line get tight and it wastime for the running man, i ran hard and set up he was on, he goes left pelling line off my reel, then turns around and goes right, then starts peeling line off fast, i thought i was going to get burned but a
turned him and started gaining line. then i lose all my line again. and then i gain it back again. then he hung himself in the grass, but he came out.. then gained some more line, and he got hung up again in the grass out thear, he was hung good this time, i couldent even feel him any more. so i just kept my line tight hoping he would get himself out. we waited and waited but nothing, i tried evrey thing. so after alongtime of waiting i finnely went to go pop the line and as i started walking back to pop it i felt it pull out of the grass a little bit, but it was still hung up so i kept walking and it pulled free. i started reeling fast, and felt somthing but i couldent tell if he was still on so i kept on reeling gaining line but veary slowley finnely i see some grass on my line then i see my leader so i kept realing, then i see a fin in the grass so i grabbed my leader and started pulling him in closer he starts thrashing around and then i get a good
look at the fat bull. hammer had gone back to the car and had fallin asleep. and me and mark wear yelling for hammer and he finnely heard us and started walking down, i got him. so he ran down and we got some good pics and then i walked him out to deeper water and gave him a push and off he went into the darkness. i was so tired and thirsty after that but at the same time i was so pumped up. it was a great day fishing with hammer and mark, and i hope to meet more of you guys.
