March was a bad month and no one in the shark club caught anything that truly deserves mention but for April we have Shannon Bustamante as the obvious leader with his huge 12 foot two inch hammerhead shark caught from Long Key bridge.
April 2009 SHARKER OF THE MONTH -SHANNON BUSTAMANTE

Shannon and Aaron Bunch with the 12 foot 2 inch hammer that won the 2009 Big Hammer Challenge Biggest Shark of the tournament award

Thank you everyone, it was a battle i had experienced many times before, only to come out on the losing side right towards the beginning or all the way at the end.
I want to give a shout out to "Meir" our newest up and coming young shark fisherman, who is always dieing to fish whenever he can, and goes through some of the hardest obstacles a young kid can go through, fishing with some hard core khahunas like Willy, Hammer, and Myself. It aint easy being a Gino fishing with us Shark Hunting Lunatics!!!!!
From getting screamed at for not shining the light in the right spot, to walking bridges all day for cudas, to running out waist deep in the water to beach a shark and etc etc. You show great determination and commitment, One day i promise you that you will be in the class of the best if you continue with all your qualities .
I mean that young man, you have the "IT" factor as far as listening, watching, and staying committed!!!!
Same goes for Aaron Bunche, Who at this point is a lot further ahead in fishing knowledge, yet has the same qualities.
We caught this Hammer as a team, i could not have done it without you guys shining the light, bringing me water, and most importantly screaming out where the whole in the pilings was when she would try going under.
Thank you Seaweed

Here's his story and why he deserves the honor of being called June's SHARKER OF THE MONTH.Three lemon sharks in one trip ,,,,,the biggest at 8ft 5 inches.CONGRATULATIONS Meir ,,,,,KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Meir's Story
friday night shannon and jimmy were fishing and a storm hit them bad they had lightning all around them and it hit close a bunch of times so they decided to leave
, and for these guys to decide to leave it must have been serious!
so me and hammer decide to go saturday morning so once we arrive we went around looking to catch cudas all day and had no luck then met up w/ janet and jerry for a while and got 2 snappers. so we couldnt get fresh cuda luckily hammer had some cuda from last trip in his cooler so we decide to go to the beach and put out baits, we put out 4 rods hammers reels get small hits not solid enough to set up on then my 12/0 gets a solid hit at around 10 o'clock i set up with the running man and the line burned my shoulder bad! so i kept fighting the shark and maybe 5 minutes into the fight it starts pouring w/ lots of lightning so hammer leaves me his jacket and he goes into the car, fight went on acc. to hammer around 30 min, i beach her she was 7'10 and we released her. aaron (941sharker)is on his way down to the keys with his friend chad and is about 2 hrs away so the hits stopped and we left to channel 2 we meet them up 45 min. after we get to channel 2 once morningt hit we are out of bait we go for cudas we hit long key and i get a cuda then we go to the moonfish hole aaron gets 4 cudas and i get 2 and when we are walking back the last cuda to the cooler we see hammer fighting a 6 foot jewfish he had him straight up and down and he released it later we go to the beach with a cooler full of bait we put 7 rods and hammer lets me use his 9/0 then the 9/0 gets hit i do the running man bring him in 8'5 lemon my biggest so far. then my 12/0 gets hit set up bring him in 6'3 lemon both released then due to my finals me and hammer had to leave early.
then aaron gets a 6'3 bull the morning after we left.

7'10 Lemon

8'5 Lemon, biggest by junior so far for '09

Congratulations, Meir! You deserve it. I especially love the fact that even though you have "shark fever" you still stay dedicated to your studies. Has anybody else noticed that every Sharker of the Month has been mentored by one of the original shark fishing addicts, my brother-in-law, JD Hammer? God help them all if they have the fever as bad as JD!!
Love you JD, but you know it's true!
