1st Place Biggest Blacktip (Blacktip Challenge) 121 lbs

So this year was my teams first Blacktip Challenge and our first shark fishing tournament. Going in looking at the other teams I didn't think we had much of a chance but we gave it our all and wound up on top. I had a great time overall. Luckily I got the time off work and was able to put in 2 whole days and nights of fishing. Wednesday night was so rough we couldn't really get any baits out so we ended up just throwing a few surf rods out and just getting some bait. The next day turned out to be pretty much the same. We got some baits out and still nothing was happening. So we decided to make a move. We packed everything up and moved north. Way north to the secret spot. As soon as we arrived we saw blacktips flying through the air and bait jumping everywhere. Right away we knew we were at the right place. We kayaked the baits out just before sunset on Thursday. On the 14/0 we put out a 50 lb amberjack and on the TLD50 and International 50 we put out stingray wings. With the baits out all we could do now was wait. The first strike was at 8:40 p.m. The TLD50 starts screaming drag and I run up to the rod and lay the hook into the 121 lb Blacktip. I bring her in and get her up on the beach. We measure her, take the necessary pictures/data, and release her. She swam off great and still green. Not even 5 minutes after the release the 14/0 starts singing that sweet song. I run up grab the rod and let him eat. After he eats it I lay the hook in him and get dragged down the beach before the line cuts on the reef. Soon after the International 50 starts going off and Mike lays the hook in him only to get tail whipped and cut off. After that we only had a couple more hits as we were packing but no solid hook sets.
