Sunday May 17th 2009 fishing for dolphin 17 miles out of Islamorada Kiki Ferrer first mate on the Reel McCoy charterboat out of Bud and Mary's marina spotted what looked like a huge Tiger shark on the surface Sunday .They gently manuvered up close to the beast and to there suprise were next to the biggest great white shark anyone including the captain has ever seen.Kiki told me on the phone the shark looked to be 18 foot long and over 2500 lbs for sure with eyes as big as baseballs. They tossed a live dolphin on a big Penn international reel but the beast did not show any interest. Then they deboned a dolphin and flipped it in and again the same response-NOTHING!!!

I think the great white most of just finished gorging on a big swordfish or was finishing off a submerged dead whale and too full to eat. There are some big monsters out there in that blue water.

Maybe they were looking at something like this Key Largo Great White caught by Joel Prouty some years back.

Or something like this 3200 lb beast caught in Australia
