13+ hammer at Lakeworth pier
This is towards the comment of not being able to hold over a 100lbs of drag.....From a boat I agree with you, but I disagree from a pier/bridge. On solid ground you can get footing so even if you slide a bit you can recover, whereas on a boat you are overboard. I see it could be difficult from a beach as sand can be tricky but you just have to get a solid stance, or sit, first. Now i dont just slam 100+ lbs of drag on a fish, I ease into it. Oh and I would never do this unless im harnessed in. Just my 2cents
Buddy i am with ya on heavy drag... I will try everything and anything but 100lbs
I dont want to sound like a DONKEY but get up on a deck and lift 100lbs of the ground with a rod and reel... Its not going to happen with out being strapped to the ground. You will need a 4 foot super custom rod and a accurte 130 or t trex.
Do your self a favor and hook yourself to a car with a small 70lbs of drag and let them take off.
That has already been done.. lol check this link out

Old 50w's get more then 30lbs or drag bro........Of all people YOU should know!
After this reel was fully serviced, ask Jonathan how much lbs showed the digital scale at full spool when he got te reel back. My digital scale got maxed out at 60lb, the scale showed FULL on the screen when cracked down, with freespool. I know what i'm talking about.
Remember the bellevilles trick that i told you about on the BHC ceremony? You should try it on your Penn 130 & you'll see on your own what i'm talking about.
Also, if you don't remember here is a crush course on how to tune up your drag on an Penn 50w:

or here is what i did with my Okuma Cavalla 50w:

Like CJ said, old 50w won't give over 30lb drag, unless you'll sacrifice freespool, which is a VERY VERY BAD idea. The side-load on the bearing will create so much pressure, that over time the bearing channel will fail by grounding itself inside the bearing. although tweaking the bellevilles help to avoid this problem while tuning the drag pressure.
Enjoy!

if i wanted to get that done to my older 50w who would i get to do it for me
I'm not in reel servicing business therefor if you can't follow the steeps in thous tutorials, shout me an pm. I'll do it for free in my spare time. That's how Jonathan got hes reel tweaked. I don't charge people for something simple as this, unless you want some IT services, then we can talk money
.
im just interested in seeing if there is really that big of a drag difference and if it changes anything else in the reels mechanics
Indeed there are three options were changing the bellevilles position - can give you different type of feel on your level drag as well as on your drag pressure, but explaining that would need a separate topic, since we are in a reporting category.
