13+ hammer at Lakeworth pier
At full drag?
Yea Man!! they will pull at most 33lbs with a stiff spool on full, anything over that I loose all free spool.
The reels are hand me downs and I would say that they are at minimum 25 years old. I have never seen the inside of them and have no clue what has been done. They all are consistent with each other and still smooth. I really had a hard time going away from penn
just because of these reels, plus scents I was a kid, every offshore trip I would druel over the Penns LOL 20 years of just wishing I had the Monster penn 130s to catch the biggest fish in the world. In the early times a 130 with 40lbs of drag was crazy! now I am playing with 60lbs in stand up gear on 50 wides. I would have loved to see my Captains face 20 years ago if I said my 50 is set at 58lbs of drag and I am going to stand up and fight the next big yellow fin. ![]()
sell my 12/0 and get another one, caught alot of fish!!!!!!!
Dude!!! I would really like to see you fishing new age 50Ws with all the Jiants under your belt, hell it might be a new challenge for ya
Never know you might not feel conferable with a 50. Even though the 50 and 80 will produce big drags it takes some time getting use to switching back and forth from 50 to 80 just because of the small size difference. I have practiced so much with 80W that the 50s just dont feel right all strapped in.
This is towards the comment of not being able to hold over a 100lbs of drag.....From a boat I agree with you, but I disagree from a pier/bridge. On solid ground you can get footing so even if you slide a bit you can recover, whereas on a boat you are overboard. I see it could be difficult from a beach as sand can be tricky but you just have to get a solid stance, or sit, first. Now i dont just slam 100+ lbs of drag on a fish, I ease into it. Oh and I would never do this unless im harnessed in. Just my 2cents

Buddy i am with ya on heavy drag... I will try everything and anything but 100lbs
I dont want to sound like a DONKEY but get up on a deck and lift 100lbs of the ground with a rod and reel... Its not going to happen with out being strapped to the ground. You will need a 4 foot super custom rod and a accurte 130 or t trex.
Do your self a favor and hook yourself to a car with a small 70lbs of drag and let them take off.
