Defenitly a big hammer and I'd say over 12 foot and with a wide girth, thickly muscled tail makes this fatter type hanmer a very intense opponent on the upper part of the hammer scale. We all know the strong fighting characteristics of the hammerhead shark make them some of the toughest to catch but I have had some memorable big ones fight like demons and then others of similar size fight completely different and with much less force ,,,,,,,,,in either case my hat's off to Jonathan on an amazing catch.Beach it next time and there could be no debate about size---if it's advisable.
This shark brings to mind one that was caught last year by Viktor(username- pierbred) at Deerfield pier right after the 2010 BHC ended and was posted as being 12 plus (I think)the pictures look very similar the shark is seen between the pilings and VERY BIG indeed.
