12 Foot Double Header Hammerhead Shark

These sharks were not caught during the tournament!

It's not everyday that you get to witness two hammerhead sharks caught at the same time from the beach! This was the last day of my spring break, I had to leave in the morning. The mackerel schools were very thick off the beach. The commercial fishermen were catching them with cast nets. That night I got a call from my friend Peter that he had hooked a monster. I quickly grabbed the pelican case and drove down to help him out. When I arrived, both Peters were hooked up on big fish.

Peter landed the first hammer. We didn't measure it, but it was roughly 9ft.

Peter quickly removed the hooked and released the shark.

The next shark was much bigger. The other Peter had been fighting this shark for over an hour.

When the shark was close, I saw a massive dorsal fin about 70yds out. To my surprise, this was not the hammer that was hooked! The hammer that was hooked was only 20yds off the beach. An ever bigger hammerhead was following the shark that was hooked! Peter managed to pull the huge hammerhead all by himself. The shark measured 144.25 inches or 12ft.

The shark was very tired. I had to turn the camera off to help Peter release the shark. We managed to get a quick photo of the two of us in the water with this 12ft hammer. I love this photo!

What a way to end a trip before heading back to school!

Incredible fish, I've always figured that was a school of massive sharks over there because almost every hook up is a monster and double headers aren't uncommon.

Just an average fisherman.
