me john alec and james went out to the pier to fish. i didnt have any decent leaders so i couldnt even put out a 9/0 so i kayaked my 1/0 out for fun well alec kayaked it out. he swam a pup shark out and james and john used mullet. i had a chunk of mullet it. every one was catching pup sharks so i figured it would be fun on the 1/0 and haven't caught a fish on it yet. well it gets a fast run then stops so i grab the rod and nothing then it starts going again. i let it eat and end up hooking this little 4 foot or so bull shark. and had some fun fighting him to the pier then another local made a lasso type tail rope to get it up and it worked great. other then that shark we were getting some decent pup sharks and then a new guy got a nice size nurse shark. here is the pic of my pup shark and my 1/0

If i read he's post correctly, even though he speaks about that 4ft bull, he mention that the picture is with one of the pup sharks caught not with that 4ft bull.
Confusing at first because usually people post pictures related to they stories, but in his post - not so much.
I'm sure there was a lot of fun fighting a big shark on a light tackle. Reminds me of the 9ft hammer that got caught back in January this year on a 4/0 reel - not wide - 2h fight - that was fun!
Camera angles are often deceiving, but monoxide is no tourist
, he can guesstimate a sharks length, considering that is a pier rod he has, the butt length is about 2ft or so for scale, and I have caught many many pup bull sharks, any smaller than 4ft and they are practically newborns, 2.5 ft still has an umbilical scar.... Cute reel by the way ![]()
Just an average fisherman.

last summer a guy was hooked into a goliath grouper on a 4/0 wide from sharkys for a bit under 6 hours he got it up to the pilings but it snapped him off from to much pressure. the thing was massive kids were saying that it was 600 lbs easy maybe 700 dont know if thats true cause ive never caughten one over 150 lbs so im not sure on the size-lbs ratio
I don't wanna change the subject, but i can't help myself not to add a side note - my Penn 4/0 that i used to fight that 9ft hammer, i had to change parts on it, because the spool axle and the pinon gear were garbage after that. It last the fight though, but when i hooked a bluefish couple days after that - the reel was toasted.

rory i was out there for that. it was adrian i ended up getting that 4 wide from him a while back and many trades ago. lol.
that shark in the picture was right around 4 foot. i wish he would have laid straight for it but he didnt want to and wasnt doing to good when we got him up on the pier so we did a quick pic and release. i do believe it was a small bull but cant be sure. but i have never caught or seen a blacknose but this had no markings other then a blunt nose like bulls.

say what you want.. I've caught plenty of 48 " fish... I've caught 4' bull sharks that would eat that thing for breakfast. Some peoples guestimations are more of a fish tale then anything.
read all the reply posts and you will see that that rod has a 2 ft butt and that the shark is bent at the middle
