0-3 last night 8/16
Well it seemed like i had the luck on the bite but i had no luck on landing a nice one. We had 2 12/0 and 2 14/0 out last night with friend nick (npatrick) and it was a nice night we set up about 7pm the tide was just coming in for about an hour. I think around 10pm we get first hit on my 14 and it was a nice one let him run and eat set the hook and it was on so i thought. It was a good one he was pulling hard as soon as i started to put pressure line broke so i thought. Seems to be my knot from my 100 to 130 came loose (uni to uni). Dissappointed at this time i start to rig it up with another bait and 10 min later my 12 starts screaming so i set the hook and it on and then what happens after that i feel what i think was the fish not pulling drag but i seemed to get hung up on what not sure. Then after the two mishaps the 14 starts running again. At this point nick's baits have not been touched at all surprisingly. But anyway the 14 is running and out of losing 2 other i try to set the hook but i think it was to early the fish dropped it and never picked it back up. Reeled it in and sent it back out and nothing the rest of the night. Called it about 2am. So now back to the drawing board and decide if i want to tie in more line or reline with no tie in. Or try another knot that was the first time i had the knot really tested so well see.

Hey, at least you got a few hits
Ive been skunked the last 4 trips in a row. Nothing has touched any of my baits except crabs. From shad to cownose rays. what type of rig you using? Circle hook/s? I almost always run double "J" VMC 12/0 welded eye hooks, or a single 14/0 VMC, if I ever get a bite they usually drive home, 9 outta 10 times.
Yea the first hit was a nice fish he was pulling good. And my uni to uni broke loose not sure why but that was the first time I had a hit on the 14 now I'm going to try a different knot. Lost 300 + yards of 130 sucks. I use a single 12/0 j hook never tried the double rig or circles for sharks.
Make that 5 skunk trips in a row for me as of last night. Looked PERFECT! Flat calm, sweet fresh rays, hell one stayed alive on my rig all night! At least your getting hits bro. I also always tie a uni to uni for line connections. Never had one fail me as of yet, knock on wood. If the two lines I'm connecting are big differences in diameter (braid) sometimes Ill double up the thinner with a spider hitch or bimini. (Sometimes i fish 65lb Ppro with a 100lb leader for tarpon) A spider hitch usually does the trick. I just pull like hell on it and test it well before slinging my bait into poonland just for piece of mind.
Uni to uni knots are very weak. I used them until I had numerous failures, so I started researching. All the top line to line knots, mono to mono or braid to braid or mono to braid, involve a bimini. Spyder hitches are proven time and time again to break well before a bimini, same goes for an albright. Tie a bimini, properly, and use a modified bristol. An improved fg knot is better but the bimini will break first anyways so a mod bristol is best option as it is easy to tie. Look up a thread here talking about the true breaking strength of diamond braid, i posted a link to this knot in there. im on my phone now so cant repost it at this moment.
