What can we say about Frank Mundus the man who pioneered so many different ways of catching sharks.Since the 1950's Frank has been catching sharks and he has often been imitated but never duplicated. From catching the biggest Great White shark ever caught anywhere in the world to being the insperation for Capt Quint in the movie Jaws he has done it all in a style uniquely his own.

a video of Frank on the Cricket II

One of the many world records that were caught THE CRICKET 2

A large great white.

The biggest shark caught anywhere in the world. The monster was 17 feet long, weighed 3427 lbs,and was caught in 1986 off Montauk,New York,,,IGFA disqualified it declaring that a dead whale was used to entice the bite.

Capt Frank Mundus with the massive jaws of a 16 foot Great White.

In the 1950's and 1960's Pilot Whales were often harpooned then ground up to be used for attracting great whites.

A 3000 lb great white Frank caught on June 1,1960.

Frank Mundus and his mate with another great white shark.

A friend of ours Chris Solomoni whom is from New York knows a friend of Patty Mundus, the daughter of Frank Mundus and located the release mount and the warehouse that Frank brought his Great White Shark to in 1986.

Actually, the release mount was in the warehouse at one marina and on display at another.

The charter came in and everyone had a smile on their face. Seas were flat and they caught their limit on the 1st 20 min. of the trip. The capt. offered to take them shark fishing, but they declined and kept jigging for 40 to 50 inch stripe bass and 20lb blue fish.

Will I remembered at Boca you asked about the reputation of Everols and their durability. I know you were speaking of sand, which I am still not sure on but in the first picture in your post you can see a 1970s (red side plate) model 4/0 Everol that Mr. Mundus used to catch that mako. You want to land that monster hammer of your dreams, get an everol 12/0, 14/0 or even an 18/0 and make it your reality.

Found this tidbit on Mundus on another forum:

This was a quote from someone that was fishing with Frank Mundas

"The 1080lb Mako was caught Aug 26 1979 on a Everol 4/0( Singl Speed ) with 50lb Sten mono. This trip was a overnighter filled with nothing but Bluesharks all night long. The following morning another run signald another Blue ( The Crew thought ) This turned out to be the 1080lb Mako that came in the slick hunting Breakfast. I,m not sure about the lengh of the fight ,I was told the angler was spent & just barely hangin on. I fished with frank a few time that following year & I asked if he still had the rod & reel that caught the mako , He replied "Sure Do , You have it in your hands now & if you dont pay attention the shark on the other end , is going to kick your ASS" The little everol I remember being Smooth , I did ask Frank if he ever took the reel apart ? He just cracked a smile & replied Why fix something that ain't broke Frank was the last of a breed of Capt/Fisherman who was truly old school in every way , I'm happy to have been able to have fished & talk with him"

I think this was before he was sponsored by Penn. because in his books he only takes about using Penn reels.

It's a carcaradon carcharias. It's a great white shark.

Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him.

I'm not talkin' 'bout pleasure boatin' or day sailin'. I'm talkin' 'bout workin' for a livin'. I'm talkin' 'bout sharkin'!

I think that in all the pictures there is an everoll.......I love everolls dont get me wrong.....but from a boat any reel can catch any shark, even a 4/0 wide senator!!!!!!
