Will I remembered at Boca you asked about the reputation of Everols and their durability. I know you were speaking of sand, which I am still not sure on but in the first picture in your post you can see a 1970s (red side plate) model 4/0 Everol that Mr. Mundus used to catch that mako. You want to land that monster hammer of your dreams, get an everol 12/0, 14/0 or even an 18/0 and make it your reality.

I think that in all the pictures there is an everoll.......I love everolls dont get me wrong.....but from a boat any reel can catch any shark, even a 4/0 wide senator!!!!!!

Found this tidbit on Mundus on another forum: This was a quote from someone that was fishing with Frank Mundas "The 1080lb Mako was caught Aug 26 1979 on a Everol 4/0( Singl Speed ) with 50lb Sten mono. This trip was a overnighter filled with nothing but Bluesharks all night long. The following morning another run signald another Blue ( The Crew thought ) This turned out to be the 1080lb Mako that came in the slick hunting Breakfast. I,m not sure about the lengh of the fight ,I was told the angler was spent & just barely hangin on. I fished with frank a few time that following year & I asked if he still had the rod & reel that caught the mako , He replied "Sure Do , You have it in your hands now & if you dont pay attention the shark on the other end , is going to kick your ASS" The little everol I remember being Smooth , I did ask Frank if he ever took the reel apart ? He just cracked a smile & replied Why fix something that ain't broke Frank was the last of a breed of Capt/Fisherman who was truly old school in every way , I'm happy to have been able to have fished & talk with him"

I think this was before he was sponsored by Penn. because in his books he only takes about using Penn reels.
