What is the strangest bait you have ever used for sharks?

and did you catch anything on it?

Strangest for me would be this...

not even a nibble, but the giant cuda that ate the other half thought it was pretty good...this was taken 3 years ago in the keys.

Also, i caught little bull sharks on those invasive freshwater cichlids...

Just an average fisherman.

Watch the sale papers and but fryers on sale.
A whole chicken fryer works great for bull sharks.
Causes a fantastic oil/chum slick. I rigged a float system for the surf. Kept it off the bottom and crabs.

Hi Guys:

Away back in the days when I was an avid sharkfisherman I have used all kinds of bait just to be fishing. I remember the days when John Hensley and myself would pick up road killed bait along the roadside to fish the Boca Chica jetties. I also remember the day I used a small goat off the end of Bob Hall pier. No, I didn't get any runs. I used a dead cayote off the beach a time or two also. When times were tough you had to use what was available. I know that a lot of you young kids don't really understand what we went through back then. You have these grand ideas about all we did back then was to catch big tigers. You have no clue what it was like to shark fish back then. It wasn't all peaches and roses....there were pleanty of lean times also so you had to pick up road killed bait just to fish.

Best and tight lines,

Norman Bateman

I tried a deer ham one time. I put 3 baits along side it and all three of the bonita got eat quick and the deer ham sit there all night, no tooth marks, no runs. I once took a 20/0 J hook and caught 5 or 6 hard head catfish (not sail cat) and hooked all of them on the hook alive. It looked like a big wiggler wiggeling away. I caught a 7' sandbar on the wiggeling hook. I stupid possum came waddeling down the pier railing one night and one of the guys that was there fishing (not with me) killed the ole possum and used him for bait. nothing ate the possum.
