Just go to your local grass flats and you should have good luck finding them.. And yes cownose rays will eat bait anything dead will work for any type of ray.

Cow nose rays are very plentiful on the west coast and one day there was a huge school at lakeworth pier and southern rays are everywhere.
The only problem with southern rays is: if you keep taking them from the place u fish, the sharks will just disappear because that is their main natural diet, i have been told this by an old timer that has had the experience of stripping a place clean of rays and not catching any sharks thereafter for a very long time.
Cow nose rays i can say from experience come in schools by the thousands, and if u can not snag at least 1 out of a school i feel bad for u lol
I must admit, a ray is a ray and any ray is excellent bait when the bite is on, ive seen monsters hooked on ray and even hooked into a big boy myself on a nice slab of ray.
Good luck finding them, i snag them mainly with bucktails but weighted trebles work better.

Just an average fisherman.

Why not "Monoxide"? Ill prolly be spearfishing some fri morn if The weather holds out. :D Its a blast! LOL! Prolly be hitting the Gandy flats if we dont take out the boat and do some real spearfishing inside the bay. Then when "the man in the gray suit" shows up we'll take out the rods and drop in the chum bag and start the frenzy :D All depending on weather of course. :?:

when you guys use snatch hooks do you attach them to a rod or do you use a rope?

Rod. I use my Stradic 6000 with 65lb braid and a 8ft custom fast action rod. Perfect for me. Gigging while wading the grassflats is easier lately. Northshore beach by the St.Pete Pier is crawling with mudrays right now, saw a few cownose lately but not many.
