Peter Buban has brought a new fire into the game of land-based shark fishing .His catch of two massive hammerheads within the last two months has sparked a movement from Senators to Gold 130's .We congratulate Peter Buban for his latest catch the winning shark in the Blacktip Challenge a 13 foot 9 inch monster .This is how you do it children ,,,,don't be mad or hating,,,,,step up your game or get the Heck OUT THE WAY!!!!THAT'S ALL I'VE GOT TO SAY,,, ""If you think small, you will stay small"" no shark will ever test your mettle like the giant hammerheads. FINALLY SOMEONE IN THE CLUB TO TRULY PUSH AS HARD AS RENE USED TO ,,,,Peter MIGHT BE the new Rene de Dios only time will tell. He certainly has the Passion,Dedication, top notch equipment all mixed with a deadly knack for perfection and key ingredients in the creation of a legendary shark fishermen..As for me ,I'm ready to get on a diet lose 20 lbs ,buy new gold 130's,buy a new truck, and start fishing three nights a week to give Peter a run for his money in 2014 .Gotta love this sport it keeps me young!!!

See this video and see if it doesn't get your blood going???

LOST ANOTHER MONSTER

Giant Shark Lost!! Video
Postby Blacktip Hunter » Tue Apr 15, 2014 12:22 pm

A friend of mine dropped off a fresh cobia carcass earlier that the day. The wind was blowing from the west and I had high hopes. We hit the beach and deployed 3 baits. Within 15 minutes my rod with the cobia started bouncing. I picked the rod up and waited. Then line started burning off the reel. I set the hook and the line went completely slack. I reeled up the slack and caught up to the shark. Then the shark just took off straight east, ripping line off the reel. He took a nice run in the beginning, went below half spool. I gained a lot of line on the shark and then he just woke up. He burned another 400+yds of line. I had a very high drag with a Duel 12/0w. At that moment I realized that this shark would die if I continued to fight it. I wanted to keep going, but it’s more important to me for the fish to live than to have my trophy. I switched with Peter 30 minutes into the fight.

Peter harnessed up and took the rod. He bumped the drag lever up to one notch below full drag. Peter laid back in the harness and had a standoff with the shark. He started gaining line and within 20 minutes we were back into the mono. Shortly after the line went lack. We quickly reeled in the remaining line and discovered that the 20/0 Mustad had been bent out significantly. Peter said, “this was the strongest fish he had ever felt”, much stronger than his 13’9” hammerhead that he caught in the 2014 Blacktip Challenge. It could have been a giant hammer or a huge tiger. We have no idea. It wasn’t a foul hooked fish, the hook had significant bite marks in it.

That's a big hammer but I still have not seen any pic with the whole shark measured ... I think if it would of been my shark it may have been questioned or disqualified ... I speak my mind it is what it is ...

Joe the picture below (same as the one up top) has the banner in it and Josh received the Required Submission picture from Peter with the tape measure stretched out.I can with certainty say that NO ONE caught any shark during this tourney anywhere near as big as this 13 ft 9 inch hammerhead.I'll ask Josh to post the pic with the tape in it but it's his tourney and Josh is an upstanding representative of our sport.

For all of you who are complaining that there is partiality with me, please consider this:
- This tournament drains me every year. I don't have the energy or the time to post up all photos instantly.
- There is a rule that requires a minimum of 6 megapixels for a photo. Some teams did not follow this rule, but I worked with them to make sure that their entry counted. I even met up with people and put aside setting up the awards ceremony to make sure that their catch happened!
- I am only one man. I don't have a whole team helping me with this.
- I don't like to post unedited photos. I like to clean up any photos before making them public.
- Please be patient! I haven't even had time to count up the number of sharks caught in the tournament. I have to drive back up to Orlando today to go to school for 5pm. I am very very busy! Please be patient!!!

Very nice shark, I have a feeling Peter will get over the 14ft mark eventually.

Just an average fisherman.

I of all people know first hand how very difficult it is to run a shark tournament and keep all different types and groups happy while being impartial.Josh has done a fine job and I for one am grateful for his hard work and dedication.Peter caught the BIGGEST SHARK EVER CAUGHT IN A LAND-BASED SHARK TOURNAMENT and that says a lot and the circumstances of rough surf and holding down a huge animal weighing a half a ton to try and take an accurate measurement is a daunting task. That shark may have been closer to 14 feet by the looks of it ,it's immense girth and other features that I with a trained eye see but we'll leave it at 13 ft 9 inches.NO ONE CAME ANYWHERE CLOSE TO CATCHING A SHARK NEAR THAT FISH SO ITS A MUTE POINT TO DEBATE AND I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANYONE FROM THE CLUB BASHING OR TRASH TALKING THIS SHARK OR THE ANGLER WHO CAUGHT IT,,,,CATCH A BIGGER ONE OR SHUT UP PLEASE!!!!I HAVE HAD TO DEFEND OTHER CATCHES IN PREVIOUS BHC TOURNEYS THAT WHINING ANGLERS WANTED DQ''D ,,I TOLD THEM THE SAME EXACT THING-----"CATCH A BIGGER ONE OR YOU WILL NOT BEAT THE FIRST PLACE WINNER".I TRY TO BE IMPARTIAL AND FAIR AND THAT IS ALL THAT I ASK OF OTHER TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS AND JOSH DID A FINE JOB .THANK YOU.

PS.......please dont make me lock this thread by continuing to whine

Peter,
Congratulation on such an impressive shark. Did this shark meet or exceed your expectation on what it took to land a 13/14ft hammer?

A catch of a lifetime by any measurement. Josh does not need to justify his personal life and/or school schedule etc. for any unjust criticism. His integrity and professionalism in this tournament (six years going strong) and his meticulous evaluation (legitimacy) of every single photo entry (stats, documentation etc.) is at the very highest level and speaks for itself. Props and wicked mega kudos to Peter Buban and his freakin' spot-on team/group. Noone can land a record beast like this without a little quality/substantial team participation. The BTC and BHC are two of the best land based shark tournaments on the planet. They will both continue to become even more noteworthy as the years come and go. But that evolution will be much easier with honorable, coopertaive and solid efforts by all who continue to enter and participate and support both of these events. IMO. 8-)
