[Sticky] Bucky Dennis- 2 World Records ,1280 lbs & 1060 lbs
To me the answer is simple.Capt Bucky Dennis the Port Charlotte Florida fisherman who recently broke a second world record for hammerhead shark .To me he is one heck of a shark fisherman and defenitly a HERO.Bucky Dennis caught a 1060 lb female hammerhead shark which broke the old record of 680 lbs caught over 20 years ago at Freeport Texas.Again he has shattered the existing world record by over 300 lbs,,,,,not an easy task !!!He has been wrongfully criticized by many that don't understand the expertise that it takes to target and capture hammerheads of over 1000 lbs. There are very few shark fisherman left of his caliber as eveident by his accomplishments and subsequent world records.Capt Bucky Dennis is a decent and respectable man and I am sure that if the IGFA had different rules about certifying world record catches where Bucky could catch and release his sharks and still claim a world record that he would do it that way.He only killed the giant hammer in order to weigh it and make it official by current IGFA rules which state that you must weigh your catch on a certified scale to claim a line class world record. My point is that this man is currently doing what no other shark fisherman is doing- BREAKING BACK TO BACK WORLDS RECORDS while others only wish they could. If you study shark fishing like I study shark fishing you will understand that Bucky Dennis is is an expert at what he does and is miles ahead of the rest when it comes to pursuing world record sized hammerheads. Let those that don't understand what drives a man to pursue the biggest of anything in the world criticize what this great hunter has accomplished i for one applaud him for being the best of the best. Not since Frank Mundus died has anyone been able to step into his role as the top dog shark fisherman in the world but i think that Capt Bucky Dennis has the potential to do it if he continues to pursue other record sized sharks such as the Mako and the Tiger shark. To those that criticize him I say study what truly affects the coastal shark populations and start a petition that will forever make illegal the longlining of sharks from any port in the continental USA and that truly will help the shark populations rebound.Don't criticize an excellent fisherman that is at the top of his game and doing what no one else on the planet can do.
His first ,the 1280 lb monster which was 14 feet 6 inches long at boatside
the story of his first record hammerhead
The next record to fall ,,,,,the 50 lb class record-stay tuned
yall know i will pull the trigger if i could catch a record like that off the beach i mite kill it but can you see the press when they get hold of that draging it off the beach with a tow truck and hauling it away on a flat bed ... is it just me or do you to think thay would turn it from record catcher to shark killer just because we are on the beach or bridge ??? just my thought i dont care witch way it goes as long as its not wasted
and i do believe thay look down on us we dont have that shiny rig we are just bums on the beach
Congrats to Bucky again, he is a great man that has accomplished something only a few will ever accomplish. In a interview with the News Press http://www.news-press.com/article/20090 ... 1058/ENT20 he said this is probably his last one. There is alot of people that are harshly criticizing him for his actions. I personally say he has killed 2 in 3 years not bad when you look at what the longliners are doing, a lot worse than any Recreational Angler has but they don't want to see that side of the truth. But that is my 2 cents!
HERO for sure!

that is the thing i havent understood about the strictly catch and release sharkers(not all of you)just those who will flame someone who killed a shark they dont understand they killed the bait the shark ate and also if you eat meat its the same so i guess to not be a hipocrate you would have to be a vegan who uses artificial baits (if that even exists for big game fish)if not then dont bother people who do what is perfectly legal.
HERO for sure those are really impressive catches anybody would envy.

Meir c , I prefer catch & release fishin & just not for sharks , However If there is money on the line & I have a shot , the tag stick is replaced with a flyer & Tail rope ! No shame in Bucky keepin these Gaints . Just like Large Bluefin tuna fishin. We have Catch & release season which is a blast. Alot of good catch & release's go in the books , but when the commercial season opens the light tackle & all the other neat new ways of catchin are put up & the 80's & 130's take thier place along with the lilly Irons(harpoons) . I guess the main point is that we respect our resources & do all we can to protect it , so when the time comes it doesn't hurt if we decide to take back a little from it . just being Honest !
He's a charter fisherman, isnt he?
Obviously I cant blame him, I've killed a few important sharks. It wasnt for bragging purposes, a good bag of money involved. I'm not talking about the money won in a tourny, I'm talking about the business a record gets you. After my measly 1st state record hit the papers, my phone went absolutely ballistic with bookings. Then after the 2nd record hit the papers, I had to start booking other boats and this turned out to be a record year for me........and this is over a state record that didnt go past state lines. I couldnt imagine a world record catch like his. People would probably pay just to sit on the dock and have you tell stories.
I hate to see a large shark killed, but two sharks isnt going to hurt anything, especially when your livelihood is at stake.
The people that really bother me are the charter captains that kill a shark just to boost the tip because his customers want the jaws. I've seen this numerous times, an 8 foot juvenile hammer laying on the dock missing its mouth all because the captain wants to make an extra 50 bucks.

I completely understand what he did as it was the only way for him to get the notoriety he needed for his charters, his livelihood. With that said, when I catch a 1000+ lb hammer it will be properly released as my name next to a IGFA World Record is not necessary. Just the thrill and excitement of fighting a beast like that is rewarding enough for me.
