2 questions here,

Q1: anybody recommend a certain LB Mono VS Braid setup for a penn 209? goods bads and everything in between.

Q2: I recently hooked up on a 6 ft stingray ( In Diameter ) 8ft long. and had about a 45 min fight. My rig was a smaller one, Penn long beach 60 with 40 LB mono. and now the clicker seems weak or not even working at times. I took the reel apart to see if anything was askew. But i don't really know what im looking for either. any idea what happened here?

Thanks in advance.

turn your clicker OFF while fighting a fish. nothing more annoying and the best way to wear it down.

I was pier fishing and alone. After he wore down enough to surface i had a good look at him while I was trying to gaffe him but when the gaffe hit him he laid rubber and broke my line. The clicker was only on until I got to the reel to turn it off. He had about a 30 second run while the clicker was on. But afterward the clicker is almost a grinding sound. I opened it and everything looks ok plus it seems to function great when not attached to the other half of the reel.

I can't really say for certain whats the cause of the grinding, but if you ever around naples i can take a look at it, all my reels are penns. I have plenty of parts if something is wrong. Personaly i don't think its the clicker, but can't say without hearing it.

Does it grind without pressure on the spool?
Check to see if the spool is to tight, there is a knob on the same side as the clicker that adjust the play.

The only other thing i can think of is the shaft that attaches to your handle that runs down into the reel, i have seen them get bent slight under heavy pressure, but you should feel when cranking, it would be hard to reel, then loosen up, then tight again...
