I'm new to rod building and I just got a 10 foot 80-130 class shark blank from mudhole,
I want to put an aluminum but on it but can't find one any where, is it even possible? Also what size top grip should I use and where should I get it? Any help on anything would be greatly appreciated keep in mind it's my 2nd rod I've ever built
Thanks

The biggest inside diameter aluminum butt mud hole sells is 1.188 ( the diamater of the blank is 1.3) so I guess that's not an option and ill have to do grips, any recomindations on the length / size of the bottom foam piece? Thanks

How long did you want it to be? if you butt it up it will come out to 12' or so. I added a unibutt to mine, measured it to stay 10' and cut from the bottom of blank. used a size 6 I believe, or whatever the biggest Aftco one is. for the foregrip i used the 1" I.D. eva from mudhole.

Good idea , I didn't even think of cutting the blank down, is there a special way to cut the blank or will a fine tooth saw work?

fine tooth will work. If I remember correctly, after I cut it from the butt, I had to sand paper about a 2" section of the butt that is the part that you epoxy to the butt ferule. Or you could just line up the spine and take out the ferule and just install is straight up if you don't plan on detaching the butt, this would result in a different measurement and cut tho remember.

I think I will take out the ferule and attach It straight up , I would think that would be much stronger than having such a tall blank coming off a ferrule , I will post pics as I build
thanks again
