Official 2012 Big Hammer Challenge Reports, Pics-Leaderboard
Great tourney, I was glade to be a part of it and look forward to next year.
Congrats to all the winners lots of teams fished there ass off and it showed. Not many fisherman can spend the amount hardcore time on the sand it takes.
Will... The amount of fishing you and your team did was phenomenal and hardcore.
Big props to Rico and Nino coming out on top with a dream Hammer. It was very nice meeting you both and sharing the sand with ya for a night.
Going back thru the pages and pages of fish is pretty damn awesome, unbelievable on how many fish where caught.... CRAZY
..........................................
-----------Just another opinion. FISH ON!!!----------
First off I want to thank Willy, his Wife and everyone involved in putting this Tourney together. You guys did a great job and I'm sure all us Anglers appreciate it. Big props to all the teams that competed in this Tourney. Great Job by our friends The Lake Worth Sharkers, Shark Fever & Dirty South. Great job by Team Jurassic, Cluster F&$k, Hammer Wranglers and all who participated. Special thanks to My Teammates, JD Hammer, Shannon, JD Fagan and Jimmy. You guys are awesome and it was a blast communicating with everyone in the wee hours of the morning to see what we caught. Although i fished really hard I slumped most of the Tourney but I got hot at the end and was able to contribute a few catches. I certainly had a lot of laughs and great memories. Like JD Hammer says " see you at the weigh in ". LOL
Will and everyone in your family (true family and fisherman) that helped organize this tournament, THANK YOU! Although I didn't hook the monster that I looked for the entire month the pure month long adrenaline rush of hunting for that monster is one of a kind. Despite the harsh weather (windy, rainy, extremely hot), time spent with family and friends is unprecedented. I feel I have learned more about shark fishing while fishing this tournament (2011/2012) than any other time in my life, and for that Thank you. Awesome work to ALL the TEAMS competing and I hope to see you all next year!
P.S Although the tournament is over, I will not give up looking for that 14ft plus Hammer!
Team HUGE Gear Captain
"GET SOME!"
For anyone that does not understand the work that goes into these shark tournaments I will tell you now. I got up this morning at 6:30 am to count the last week's sharks and total up everything and was not finished at 3:15 when I had to go to one of our sponsors to collect Prizes for Sundays BHC Awards party. My wife Maggy worked until 6 pm nonstop preparing the graph and now I will spend a few more hours tabulating the winners in the many Categories.I'm sure glad I love this sport and have the financial means and time to dedicate to it and to this wonderful tournament.I am saddened by what happened to the disqualified sharks as I am when there is any sort of contreversy in our Tournament.
In the future maybe we will set a maximum of sharks to be posted at one time to avoid double postings,,,,maybe Teams should better prepare there computer skills before competing to avoid having someone that is not an angler in the tournament post there sharks for them.In life being prepared is essential and in this tournament it is also.Another problem which we had including my Team was getting accurate measurements when short handed ----it's almost impossible.TEAMS SHOULD NOT FISH WITH LESS THEN THREE ANGLERS PRESENT.
I know that sometimes it is impossible and you just have to go with who you have and thats OK but be ready to make mistakes and have your pictures come out less then desirable.Such was the case of the supposed 7 ft 3 inch Goliath caught by Team Tightlinez which are personal friends of mine ,the angler at the mouth of the Goliath overextended his hand too far about 4 inches and got a measurement of 7 ft 3 inch wihout noticing his mistake .The Grouper was actually about 4 inches shorter making it a Tie with Team Total Release's 6ft 11 inch Goliath caught on the west coast. These mistakes and us having to deal with them takes the fun out of the tournament,,sometimes we have to make very tough decisions and not everyone will agree with them but we cannot make everyone happy. We work hard to be impartial and sometimes personal friends heads roll, but I cannot be responsible for there mistakes.
Mt wife makes this tournament possible it is not me alone ,,,no way!!Again this year I will say that my wife who has Lupus and puts up with me and works as dillengently as I do to make this tournament a reality ,,,if anything ever happens to her and I don't have her next to me to help me with the tournament I could never do this without her.My better half is Maggy and the BHC is as much part of me as it is her because of all the hours of hard work that she dedicates to it ,,,never asking for anything in return --that my friend is the meaning of TRUE LOVE.Thank you my love.
Thank you all for for fishing in the world's best shark tournament ,,,,when I am gone this may be one of the good things I am remembered for.

Rico's story of the Monster 13 foot 3 inch Hammerhead he caught
"Hey everybody this is Rico from the Hammer Wranglers. Sorry, couldn't get online earlier i've been having troubles with my computer. On the night of the giant HammerHead, after finally getting baits out i heard the first few clicks. After setting hook and a blistering run the line goes slack . I thought the fish was gone for sure. Frantically reeling in i feel the fish fighting back. Relieved that I didn't lose it the fight continues on for what seemed like forever and as the leader came out of the water and as Nino and Andrew grab it they fought to hold on to it. The fish pulled away from us and fought for another while. I could see now losing the fish and just having been so close to it to be able to touch it. Fatigue was setting in and it was either me catch this fish now or fight it all night. As i lock down the drag for my final hope to land this fish we see the fin yet again.
As the fish came closer Andrew cautiously slipped the tail rope on the fish. WE DID IT! With all 3 of us tugging as hard as we can we barely could move this fish.
Guessing the fish was 12'3" we were all amazed to find out that it was 13'3" after tagging and releasing the fish i was so tired it felt like my legs were going to fall off.
I really want to say some special thanks to Nino, Andrew, Mallory, and Austin (My Team)
And I also want to thank all the other teams for working so hard and catching so many fish to drive me to get out on that beach every night. You all have done such an amazing job this year.
Special thanks to Will Fundora for bringing us all together every year for the Best shark tournament in all of Florida. Tourneys not even over yet and already looking forward to next year."

color=#FF0000]HARD LUCK TROPHY
Brett Casto of Team True Blue was spooled on two reels fishing from a pier. There was no stopping this monster shark ,,maybe a Mako,Maybe a Tiger or maybe a BIG HAMMER,,,,we'll never know .Here is the amazing story as told by Team Captain the legendary Ernie Polk.
"Team True Blue ended up with 15 sharks that includes 2 hammers, 2 tigers, 1 lemon 3 spinners 5 bulls 2 black tips and 2 sandbars. None of our team took off work. I had 2 days a week off to fish along with the rest of the crew. My days off are weekdays so Tater and John fished the weekends and I fished the weekdays along with Brett and Joey. We deployed close to 175 baits through the tournament. The largest we landed was an 8' bull. As luck would have it our big fish ate the bait connected to our 9/0 . Brett fought the fish for 2 1/2 hours on the 9/0. The 9/0 had 900yds of dimond braid Momoi . I managed to get my 80w tied into the line on the 9/0 just before the mono backing. We put as much drag as we could without the splices breaking. Within 15 minutes the fish had the 80w striped off also. I was in the process of tieing a 16/0 in to it, and the loop knot broke at the end of the rod.Knot Failure!!!! All on count of my over hand loop knot at the bottom of the spool. Braided line is not forgiving on the knots ya tie."
Given to the angler who comes closest to catching a MONSTER SHARK then loses it
OUTSTANDING CATCHES-HONORABLE MENTION
OUTSTANDING ROOKIE SHARKER ANTHONY REED of Team Shark Outlet.com MASTERED THIS 9 ft Lemon on 60 lb test

GARRETT FOSTER OUTSTANDING ROOKIE JUNIOR ANGLER member of Team Northern Invasion
"Garrett Foster with his second ever fish, a 6,7 Lemon on a Daiwa 600H w/50# line. This was a cool catch for a # of reasons. Garrett did a great job fighting the fish and I got to coach him a little while he was using his first personal shark rig,one I gave him for his birthday this past year. I caught my first shark on that rig. It was just a cool catch all the way around... I had to shoot a little video. As you can see in the last pic. his dad (Scott) was proud as hell!"

2012 BTC 2nd Place Largest Shark
2012 January Sharker of The Month
2012 BHC 4th Place Largest Shark
2014 February Sharker of The Month
Thank you Will i fished my hardest for my team, our tournament, and for Old Man Hammer and Rene looking Down!!! i look forward to a lifetime in this shark club, and watching my son Dante fish this same tournament in 15 years!!!!
We want to again thank everyone that participated in the 2012 Big Hammer Challenge it was the best turnout ever in the tournaments 6 year history. We had the a Record sized shark 13 foot 3 inch,a Record number of Teams 43 competed and many other records were broken and land-based shark fishing history made by the number of sharks caught from a beach in a single night. My wife Maggy and I worked tirelessly to make it all possible and in the end we are satisfied that the anglers enjoyed a world class tournament and we look forward to doing it again in 2013 BUT for now we are grateful for the time off we've taken in the last 3 days since the awards Party and soon we will send out the Awards to those that did not make it to the party last Sunday. It is disappointing to put so much effort into buying the best trophies and prizes and then having a smaller then expected turnout to help celebrate the winners but tough economic times taht we are in makes it difficult for some that live far away to make the drive. We will be contacting the Teams that need there trophies and prizes shipped to them shortly.Again Thank You very much.
