IT''S HARD TO UNDERSTAND THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT TAKES TO MAKE ALL THIS HAPPEN . I pay for the food for the Awards party out of pocket and pay for the state park pavillion out of pocket AND I EVEN PAID CLOSE TO $2300 BETWEEN SHIRTS AND HATS MADE BY ONE WAY DESIGN IN HOLLYWOOD FLORIDA. ITS time money and effort it takes alot out of me and my wife. Below are some of the major expense involved with the Big Hammer Challenge. Id love to see someone do a month long tournament but most cant THEY HAVE NO IDEA.THESE ARE JUST THE LARGEST OF THE EXPENSES THERE ARE SOME THAT ARE NOT INCLUDED SUCH AS $300 TO SHARKBOUND RODS TO BE PAID THE DAY OF THE AWARDS PARTY. examine these figures so you can understand that i do this out of love for this sport without making a single dime -my only interest is in doing a good job and promoting our sport .Thank you all for the chance to serve you.

Because the members of this team decided to slander this tournament and my person in public media (facebook)rather than address a complaint through the proper channels as indicated in the BHC Rules they have been Disqualified and there catches as well Disqualified. Had they filed a Formal Complaint before the end of the Tournament and sent in the accompanying $25 ; the complaint would of been heard and voted on by the 2017 BHC committee-the complaint was passed to me the day after the tourney ended Monday May 15,2017.
Running this tournament never gets any easier it seems like every year we have those that want to oppose somebody's catch but they have not taken the time to Read the Rules so they carry on and bitch and complain but don't follow protocal to have a complaint properly addressed. If I were to DQ everyone that is suggested by pissed competitors ,half of those competing in the BHC field would be wiped out by angry, jealous, sore losers that want to find any little reason to knock somebody's catch off so they can move up one notch. I have the unsavory job of dealing with sort every year and thank God I have tough skin and can see right through the BS and the bad intentions. This Tournament is bullshitless because I don't tolerate it. God bless America and God Bless the hardest core shark fishermen that fish this tournament and give there all to win in a clean hard working way- not with deceit and bad intentions in there hearts

People who have a tendency to cheat in shark fishing tournaments and killing sharks and displaying them like its funny or allowable behavior should
not be trying to get other anglers catches disqualified. In the picture below which clearly shows the female anglers rod being supported by Raymundo Muniz a clear violation of BHC Rules . This picture was posted on facebook and quickly removed but not before somebody copied it and saved it to show a flagrant disregard of proper angler conduct.

angler Jay Cross

So Jay and I head out to the South Skyway Fishing Pier, and none of our other team mates decide show up or want to go out. We looked at each other when we got there, and told each other, “we are going to hook something big to tonight.” So about 2 hours after we get there, the tide starts going slack, and then about 15 minutes after that, Jay's 14/0 starts screaming. So he lets the fish eat then about 5 or 6 minutes he sets hook. He asked me to run get his harness, so I do, and by the time I get the harness and catch up to him, the fish has taken him all way down to the first bathroom on the pier, which is about 6 light poles from where we were fishing. About a 45 min or longer tug of war is going on with Jay and the fish at this time, and we have no clue what it is and Jay finally gets it close enough to see what it is; its a huge lemon shark (looks about 11 foot)! Jay finally gets the shark close enough to the pier, so we can start walking her down, and Jay gets about 2 light poles away from me, and the 9/0 starts, to click which was set up for jew fish. I grab the 9/0 and start, the tug of war. What ever the hell hit, it was huge. I have no clue what it was, as it wrapped me around the piling, and the line popped. I reel up and put the reel in the truck, and grab the banner and the tape and head down the pier to catch up with Jay. As I am getting close to him, the shark seemed pulled the hooks!

Folks I lose sleep over this tournament, and I ask myself time and time again "is this worth it ? My wife has Lupus and sores on her legs that keep her up at night in tears from the excruciating pain its not easy for her to tag along with me every day for two months prior and during the tournament to help me with the tournament. I have too much on my plate to deal with so much non sense from disgruntled anglers and people that are not even in the tournament that this makes me just say 'Never Again! " My wife and I put so much time and work into this competition that I am sincerely bothered and at times disheartened when I see so many people attacking our tournament for reasons that make absolutely no sense. I have dealt with the problem of dead sharks from the very beginning of the Big Hammer Challenge in 2007 . We cleared this up years ago and the Rules were changed to reflect the reality of catching large hammerheads from shore which is that they sometimes die after release and that we would not Disqualify an angler if he did everything possible to release his shark in a timely fashion and it ended up dead on a beach the following day. People on social media who are not members on this site or have any affiliation with us at all are coming out of nowhere to bash and criticize this tournament and me on a personal level without taking the time to read our Rules; without so much as a bit of consideration of the work we have done for the benefit of the sport of land-based shark fishing. Many are doing it to troll us into a fight and to purposely disrupt the BHC in an attempt to tarnish our work but I am undeterred by their evil ways although upset to see so many trying to do so much harm without cause. These people take pleasure in doing harm with no regard to what we in Florida suffer with Shark Fishing Bans being threatened upon us continuously . It is with ill intent that they continue to attack us with no regard whatsoever for the sport and its image here or in other states as well . There has been a complete lack of respect for all the work we have done over the years and that is disturbing and a window into the souls of men of evil and what the world of social media has allowed these misfits and sociopaths to unleash on folks of good nature working to serve others without compensation.

I have stated and it is in the BHC Rules that "no one in the BHC should become involved in bashing on social media" but I don't want people to get the wrong impression -I am all for freedom of speech but am also trying to protect the image of the sport ,this tournament, and anglers competing in it. I am not a tyrant or a dictator I want you all to be able to have open discussions on the BHC tournament and anything about the tournament .So please feel free to RESPECTFULLY COMMENT below.Thank you and GOOD LUCK TO ALL COMPETITORS.
