July 2016 Report: Good end to the season
With the water warming up and the big bite slowing down, I fished less and made sure to use my time wisely.
Hit the beach on a Saturday. I was supposed to have a partner but plans fell through. I was still going out! Turns out a couple legends from the Team Rebel Crew were coming out so I told them to set up with me, I dont care if they steal my fish! They ended up gettin some snook and I got a pumpkin bull. She was probably just shy of 8 feet but as round as the moon! Some fresh mating bites too.
went out on the 4th of July just for the hell of it. I had all my festivities done on the 3rd LOL. Some Jackass in a boat come rippin through at 1AM, close to shore. Takes out two lines. We lost the mono and some primo braid and rigs! If there were some kids out drinkin and swimmin, they would have been chopped by the prop!
Went out the following Friday with a few peeps. Water was warm and my hopes were low but I guess there was a migration going on. Crystal got a nurse shark, her first and hopefully last. At least she can cross that off the species list. Just about an hour later I got a run and it was a small sandbar shark. I quickly ran another bait and before I could open my next beer the reel was screaming. Another Sandbar, a solid one that was foul hooked on the peck fin! Fought like a beast. Had my hopes way up there! While reeling in for the night, I snagged 4 rigs! had a couple spider weights and a brick. It was two of my rigs (one from the boat a week before and one form a bite off) The other rig from the boat and another of my friend's LOL. Felt like reeling in a tree! Took a while but saved some money in the rigs and cleaned up the ocean! Still made it to taco bell in time too!
Went out Sunday real quick to the local spot with the small gear. Crystal got her first lemon on the Avet HX. We packed up and left as another group was setting up.
Went out next Friday. No bites.
Went out Saturday, No bites. Now this reminds me of the hot summer months where the fish arent so easy to get!
Hit the beach the next Saturday and get a couple small runs. Tiny sharks are here. A big storm came in, changed direction, gave us a good scare but we stayed dry.
I was gettin ready to take a trip to the west coast and I had a lot of work to do. I dont know why but I looked at the weather and decided to run to the local beach with the surf rod for two hours. Paid off. First bait was hit by crabs. I changed it out after 30 minutes. NExt bait was picked up and the fight was on. Landed a chunky 8'3" Female Lemon. There was a nice couple down from Ohio that snapped a pic for me!
IT was a good way to end the season. Now I can get a break and prepare for next year. Still fishin all year, just more weekends or short trips during the week. I know the tippers are on the way so I'll be out there with the small gear having fun with them soon enough!
Here fishy fishy fishy.....
Catch a fish or catch a buzz!
