hello to all my fellow south florida landbased shark fishermen!! i have been an avid follower of this site before i have ever even attempted land based shark fishing.. having grown up on long island my whole life i was used to surf fishing for striped bass in the cold winter months snow falling on the ground. upon stumbling across this site i saw people in shorts paddling out baits in february that were the size of my best catches of striped bass back on long island. i
was instantly intrigued with landing a monster. me and my father would always plan a trip to the keys once or twice a year since i was about 8 years old and this is when my love for fishing florida began. my dad moved to jupiter about 6 years ago when i went to college in north carolina. Since then i have always visited for weeks on end always dreading the flight back north. this past year me and my girlfriend packed up some stuff and drove cross country in my chevy blazer...our adventure encompassed 23 diffrent states 19,000 miles and 6 months on the road, it was incredible. after our travels we ended back in ny and it didnt feel right. after seeing so much of the country we knew new york wasnt where we wanted to be. we once again packed up the truck and headed south. we stayed with my father in jupiter for a while until we were able to find an incredible yet affordable spot right on the beach on singer island. Thats where my ADDICTION!! to land based shark fishing began. i have been down in south florida about 6 months now and couldnt be happier. i started out with my two spinning rods and have landed a bunch of spinners and blacktips but since my addiction i have bought a kayak and some "big guns" as well as gotten some old senators passed down from my grandfathers days of sharking the waters off of long island. i am so happy to be apart of a forum that encompasses such a well respected group of shark fishermen... i have already learned so much and now being more invovled im sure i will learn exponentially with every post

Welcome aboard bud!!That's alot of traveling I'd say enough to write a book ,,,the great story has only begun for you my friend, you are living in a place where monster sharks cruise all the time and it's just a matter of time before you get that 9/0 smoked and decide to move up in size.You and your girlfriend can fish year-round ,sit on the beach in shorts, zip a cold one ,and soak a bait that might get you a really big shark ,,,,it ai'nt New York but it'll become intoxicating for sure.Thanks for posting and we hope to see you catch some biguns.Good luck.

Welcome aboard and thats alot of traveling but you landed in the right spot!!! Good luck with searching for that monster there's alot of info on this site for you to gather just take it all in and go with it.

I've spent many years fishing Long Island.


Its great, but it doesn't compare to the Florida. Blacktips/Spinners are much better then any stipper/blue/weakfish/flounder/fluke on spinning gear. It just don't compare.

I hope to catch up with you on Singer.

You've stepped foot on the right grounds, yesterday at the inlet was thousands and thousands and thousands of sharks and hundreds of jacks.

Thanks everyone...thats montauk light house right ?? And like you said catching a shark from spinning gear is a whole different level compared to striped bass.... Slasherx.. I didn't make it to the inlet but further north it was wild we were seeing about 20-30 spinners jump every hour... It was my girlfriends birthday on Friday so we spent the day on the beach and hooked up with about 12 sharks and got 8 on the sand it was nonstop action they were hitting my bait before I got the kayak back to the beach. Right as I was packing up my stuff I got a hit set the hook and the fight was nothing compared to the other ones so I didn't think it was a shark I reeled up and it ended up being a loggerhead turtle I hooked him right under his arm got the hook out without hurting him and he took off no problem but it's amazing when u put out a bait you really have no idea what your going to end up with (he hit a whole fillet of bonita) Im typing this post from my phone but I will post some pictures soon...I'm having fun with the 6 footers but can't wait to get a monster I've put out full Bonita's and the spinners still end up taking it... Sooner or later something big is going to swim by
