The weather was as bad as it could get,rain,mixed up with thunder and lightning.We all meet up at my house as normal.We all jumb in my suv since i have the most room in a surburban.It takes us about 40 mins to reach the beach through all the weather,but we keep on going for some reason.By the time we reached the beach it was like god had anserwed our prayers,lifted the clouds and stoped the rain.
We hit the beach and start to set up,the sky has a slight over cast,and the water was as flat as a puddle.It made me more nervous to kayak out in that,than 2 - 4 ft seas for some reason.Just calm as ever,and you could see all the way to the bottom.We set up four rods that day,the 14/0 at about 500 yards,well into the color change.The two 12/0 at about 350 yards.Last but not least the 9/0 at about 250 yards.All with a nice helping of cuda.It was a real slow night until about 12:30 when a friend of ours shows up for so midnight sharking.I geuss he was going through withdrawls and had to show up and keep us company.He paddles his penn 80w in to the dark of the night going out an easy 700 yards,before droping.
On the way back in we get a tug on the 9/0,at first we think its just juan playing around,until we see the rod double over and start peeling line like a boat was hooked to it.Thats when we knew its Shark on.As soon as i strap on to the reel i can feel the heft of the shark as he was determined not to be seen.The fight lasted about 30,mins before the big female gave in to the reel and allowed herself to be beached.All in all it was one of my most memorbial catches yet,and one i will have for a life time at 10' 3" and over a 3 ft girth.
